Ascent of Ashes dev switches to Godot halfway development “Not as chaotic as Unity”

Ascent of Ashes, the upcoming colony sim by Vivid Storm Interactive, has been delayed to early next year. While addressing player feedback certainly plays a role in the delay, the migration from Unity to Godot is an even more significant factor. “Godot doesn’t feel quite as chaotic as Unity did at times”, says studio owner and Lead Developer Max Hermann.

Yolanda Mogatusi of Alkemaiz Games “I’m curious about doing things better”

Yolanda Mogatusi, founder of Alkemaiz Games, sees creativity as a means of problem-solving. In September 2023, she received a Rising Star Award at the Fak’ugesi Festival for her game ‘Rapz,’ which she created to foster a sense of self-love in young girls. She employs art forms such as dance, filmmaking, fashion, and now game development to find creative solutions to things that are near and dear to her.

Simon Taylor saw his game Smash Dungeon fail “The journey comes to an end”

It’s a hard pill to swallow if you’ve worked on your game for five years, only to launch it to a largely indifferent audience. That’s what happened to solo developer Simon Taylor (working under the name Plastic Cow Games) and his game Smash Dungeon. First week’s sales were 117 units. That’s a 4% wishlist conversion. After that, the game never gained any traction and faded away in obscurity.
